What is Medical Qigong?

Medical qigong is a 3,500+ year old system of health care that targets the root causes of symptoms, illness, and disease to promote the healthy flow of energy (qi). According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), one’s state of being (illness/disease or health/wellness) is a result of energetic patterns.

What happens to a body of water when there's no movement? No water flow? It becomes stagnant and bacteria starts to grow. The same is true for our bodies, which are mostly made of water. For example, if you have a sedentary job that keeps you seated most of the day, your energy becomes stuck and stagnant, resulting in illness or disease. We need healthy qi flow to maintain optimal wellbeing.

What are Some of the Medical Qigong Treatment Techniques Used?

As a Certified Master of Medical Qigong, I use a variety of techniques to clear stagnation, cultivate and boost qi (energy), promote healthy qi flow.

  • Specific hand movements with visualizations to purge, tonify, and regulate one’s qi

  • Acupoint therapy (applying pressure to specific points on the body)

  • Sound healing (using vibrations to break up energy blocks)

  • Cupping (to enhance blood circulation, alleviate pain, and promote healing by removing blockages and drawing out impurities)

  • Moxa (burning dried mugwort on or near the skin to warm and invigorate the flow of qi, expel cold and dampness, and maintain overall health)

What is a

Typical Session Like?

  • During your 2-hour consultation, we’ll discuss what you'd like to get out of medical qigong treatments, past history of and current physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual challenges, etc., along with any specific area(s) of focus.

  • During the 90-minute follow-up sessions, we’ll discuss progress/challenges that occurred since your last session, such as your experience with the prescribed qigong exercise or meditation. We will also discuss any current symptoms or area(s) of focus for the current treatment.

  • Clients generally lie face-up on the treatment table while clothed (ideally with socks removed), while I perform some or all of the techniques mentioned above. *Please note that hands-on techniques may be used with consent.

  • I’ll share my insights and recommend a qigong exercise or meditation based on my assessment.

  • Participating in one’s own healing journey is a vital part of cultivating your ideal state of being. Therefore, practicing the recommended technique in-between treatments is highly encouraged to supplement Medical Qigong treatments.

What Could I Experience During/After a Treatment?

People's experiences vary based on their level of awareness, energetic sensitivity, and other factors.

Some examples include:

  • Deep state of relaxation (ex: You may fall asleep during the treatment. Clients have reported improved sleep after receiving treatments.)

  • Tingling, buzzing, hot/warm, cold/cool, and/or pulsating sensations in the body

  • Emotional and/or physical release(s) (ex: more frequent urination if treatment focused on the kidneys)

  • Increased awareness (ex: insight into past or present challenges)

  • Visions (ex: seeing colors)
