On a physical level, the heart pumps blood throughout the body, regulates blood circulation and blood vessels, is responsible for even and regular pulse and is connected with your tongue, complexion, and arteries.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, shen is translated as “mind” or “spirit”. Shen is housed in the heart, and is thought to regulate your emotions, consciousness, and other mental functions. When your shen is healthy, you are able to think clearly and rationally, feel a deep sense of inner peace and calm, and cultivate healthy relationships with yourself and others. The heart also influences vitality and spirit, is linked with the emotion of joy.
When the shen or energy of the heart is imbalanced, it can manifest as heart palpitations or irregular heart rhythm, poor concentration and long-term memory, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, lack of enthusiasm and vitality, restlessness, depression, despair, and other signs of mental and emotional disorders.
Calming, opening, and healing you heart is so important for your physical, emotional, and mental health and wellness.
